Con l’introduzione di nuovi treni regionali a composizione bloccata, diverse locomotive E464 sono state riassegnate a servizi Intercity a lunga percorrenza, sia diurni che notturni, nei casi in cui la loro velocità di 160 km/h sia sufficiente per garantire un buon servizio.
Per abbinarsi alle carrozze a cui sono ora destinate, queste macchine hanno ricevuto la nuova livrea Intercity con fondo bianco, telaio, tetto e frontale in grigio, fascia rossa e grande fascia grigia sulle fiancate, sfumate alle estremità.
